Dear Readers,
As we begin 2005 ....
The economy outperformed expectations in 2004 and give Singaporeans
much to cheer about at the end of 2004. But then the tsunami struck
and our thoughts turned to the plight of our neighbours and how we
had been spared so mercifully despite being so dangerously close to the
earthquake's centre.
We at REDAS are saddened by this unforeseen disaster which has claimed
over 150,000 lives and left many homeless and destitute. The death tolls
climbs with each passing day. Like many other countries, the Singapore
Government has responded promptly with vast relief effort and aid to
those nations hardest hit by this catastrophe. Our people and organizations
from all sectors have also given generously in kind and in cash to help
the victims of the disaster.
REDAS Members, big and small, are among the many from the private sector
which have undertaken separate initiatives in the donation drive.
Efforts are on-going to raise as much funds as possible for those in
dire need of shelters, food and medical assistance.
As we move on in 2005, we count among our blessings, this generous and
unified spirit of Singaporeans and the world community who have stepped
forward to provide support to those greatly impacted by the crisis.
We take this opportunity to thank you for your support over the years.
On behalf of the REDAS Management Committee, we wish all
A Healthy, Happy and Prosperous Lunar New Year !
